Leeds Golf Design was appointed in 2025 to prepare a long-term masterplan and golf course assessment for the historic The Glamorganshire Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in Wales and the birthplace of the Stableford scoring system.
The masterplan focuses on the conservative and sustainable improvement of the golf course, respecting its historic James Braid character while enhancing playability, presentation and year-round performance. The proposals include strategic bunker renovation and reshaping, green surround improvements, woodland and habitat management, drainage enhancement, fairway refinement and sustainability-led landscape improvements throughout the property.
Particular attention was dedicated to improving the quality and consistency of the green complexes, restoring strategic interest for the modern game while maintaining fairness and playability for golfers of all abilities. The proposals aimed to improve the overall playability of the course whilst future-proofing the layout and playing surfaces for year-round golf and changing weather conditions.
The proposals also include selective tree management to improve turf health, views and biodiversity, alongside recommendations for new ecological rough grasslands and water management features.
The first phase of construction works was successfully completed during Winter 2025/26, including improvements to greens, drainage and selected course features as part of the club’s long-term phased renovation programme.
