Leeds Golf Design were appointed by North Foreland Golf Club in 2025 to prepare a comprehensive golf course assessment and long-term masterplan for the historic clifftop links overlooking the Kent coastline.
Founded in 1903 and shaped over time by architects including Tom Simpson, Herbert Fowler and Harry Colt contemporaries, North Foreland is recognised for its free-draining chalkland terrain, dramatic coastal setting and strong traditional character. The masterplan focuses on the sensitive modernisation and future-proofing of the golf course whilst respecting its historic identity and existing architectural strengths.
The proposals include strategic bunker renovation and reshaping, enhancement of green surrounds and fairway definition, safety improvements, tee refinements, drainage and sustainability-led landscape management throughout the property. Particular attention was dedicated to improving playability and year-round performance whilst reducing unnecessary maintenance inputs through the introduction of natural rough grasslands, native planting and more sustainable bunker solutions.
The masterplan also includes detailed proposals for the short course and practice facilities, including a new driving range, upgraded putting and short game areas and modern teaching facilities designed to support player development and membership growth for future generations.
