Leeds Golf Design were appointed by Llanishen Golf Club in December 2025 to prepare a comprehensive golf course assessment and long-term improvement masterplan for the club’s mature parkland course.

Founded in 1905, Llanishen Golf Club occupies an attractive rolling parkland landscape on the northern edge of Cardiff, characterised by mature woodland corridors, natural valleys and varied topography. The masterplan focuses on sensitive and realistic improvements aimed at enhancing playability, safety, sustainability and year-round performance while preserving the established character and identity of the course.

The proposals include strategic bunker renovation and reshaping, fairway widening, extension and refinement of greens and teeing areas, drainage and surface water management improvements, woodland management and the enhancement of green surrounds and playing corridors. Particular attention was dedicated to improving playability and fairness for golfers of all abilities while strengthening the visual consistency and strategic character of the course.

Strong emphasis was also placed on sustainability and long-term maintenance efficiency through the reduction of unnecessary sand areas, the introduction of natural-looking grassy hollows and swales, improved drainage strategies and the enhancement of native rough grassland areas to strengthen landscape character and biodiversity across the site.
