Leeds Golf Design were appointed by Golf Club Milano in September 2024 to prepare a sustainable bunker renovation masterplan for the club’s historic championship courses located within the Royal Park of Monza.
The project focused on improving bunker strategy, visibility, playability and long-term sustainability whilst respecting the historic parkland character of the course and its remarkable woodland setting. The proposals included bunker reshaping and repositioning, reduction of unnecessary sand area, enhancement of green approaches and playing strategy, together with landscape-led earthworks designed to integrate naturally within the existing terrain.
A strong emphasis was placed on sustainability and maintenance efficiency, with the proposed masterplan reducing the total bunker sand area by approximately 53% whilst maintaining the strategic integrity and visual identity of the championship layout.
Golf Club Milano is one of Italy’s most prestigious championship venues and is scheduled to host the 2026 Italian Open organised by the Federazione Italiana Golf (FIG).
