Leeds Golf Design were appointed by Golf Club Lignano in 2024 to prepare a landscape and safety improvement proposal focused on hole 3 of the golf course, addressing long-term health and safety concerns related to neighbouring residential properties.
The project focused on improving player safety through the repositioning of the line of play, selective woodland management and the introduction of new strategic planting designed to reduce the risk of errant golf shots whilst maintaining an enjoyable and visually attractive golfing experience. The proposals also included the reshaping of fairway mowing lines and teeing areas in order to encourage safer playing angles and improve the overall flow of the hole.
Strong emphasis was placed on sustainability and low-maintenance landscape solutions through the introduction of native Mediterranean planting and naturalised rough areas to replace intensively maintained turf in out-of-play areas. The proposed vegetation strategy included a mixture of aromatic, evergreen and flowering native shrub species aimed at improving biodiversity, reducing maintenance inputs and strengthening the visual identity of the course landscape.
The proposals were developed in accordance with EIGCA safety guidelines and formed part of a wider strategy to create a safer, more sustainable and visually cohesive golf environment whilst preserving the natural character of Golf Club Lignano.
