Leeds Golf Design were appointed by Dartford Golf Club in 2022 to prepare a comprehensive golf course assessment and long-term improvement masterplan for the historic James Braid influenced parkland course.
The masterplan focused on the sensitive and sustainable enhancement of the course whilst respecting its historic character and existing landscape. Particular attention was dedicated to improving strategic interest and challenge on the shorter holes through the introduction of thoughtful bunker positioning, natural ground movement, native planting and more defined playing corridors.
The proposals included strategic bunker renovation and reshaping, green surround improvements, woodland management, drainage enhancement and fairway refinement throughout the course. Strong emphasis was placed on sustainable and cost-effective solutions through the reduction of unnecessary maintained turf areas, the introduction of natural rough grasslands and heathland-style vegetation, and the use of grassy hollows and landform features as alternatives to excessive bunkering.
The masterplan also included recommendations for practice facility improvements, enhanced biodiversity, improved year-round playability and safer, more efficient maintenance operations, all delivered through a phased long-term renovation strategy designed to minimise disruption to members and play.
