Leeds Golf Design were appointed by Birchwood Park Golf & Country Club in 2025 to prepare a comprehensive golf course assessment and long-term improvement masterplan for both the main course and practice facilities.

The project focused primarily on bunker renovation and strategic course improvements aimed at enhancing playability, visibility, sustainability and overall course presentation whilst respecting the existing parkland character and topography of the site. The proposals included bunker reshaping and repositioning, fairway and green surround refinements, tee enlargement, path improvements, woodland management and revised practice facility concepts.

Particular attention was placed on creating a more consistent bunker style and improving the strategic value of the golf course whilst reducing unnecessary maintenance inputs through more sustainable landscape-led solutions, including the replacement of selected sand hazards with natural grassy landforms and hollows.

The masterplan also included proposals for the relocation of the practice putting green and the redesign of hole 9 of the short course associated with future infrastructure improvements at the club.

The first phase of renovation works was successfully carried out during winter 2025/26.
